February Updates

I've been crazy busy these last few weeks/months--my work has really amped up and I haven't been able to blog as much. I've still been seeing Calvin, but there haven't been any huge changes or anything I feel the need to report on. Sometimes though, no news is good news when you have a young horse :)

I do have a few updates, for one-- Cavlin is now fat! That's right... fat. After being on the too thin side for so long, I can officially say that he should be on a diet. However, it's either a stall + diet or pasture space + free feeding. I'm doing the free feeding option now since I can't go out everyday. Now he's not fat-fat, but definitely chunky. If he gets too fat then I'll have to stall him, but right now he's just a bit on the chub side.
Look at that beer belly :D

Being fat means more work! I've been alternating rides between arena and trail. So happy to have some green after the rain. Since I grew up in arenas, galloping across a grass field is stuff dreams are made of!
Calvin wondering why we would run across perfectly good food....

This.

These trails aren't super technical, which means that he doesn't get worked as thoroughly as I'd like. Therefore, I had to find my own hills and make him go up and down for that booty workout. I love technical trails and really miss my challenging ones at my old barn because Calvin is basically a mountain goat. I didn't get pics of him on the hill, but I did get one of Heidi resting in the grass on said hill.
Happy Germ

A baby was born at the facility within the last few weeks. They lost the mom so baby is orphaned, but luckily the mares on the side seem to be caring for him as best they can, that and I guess they're giving him free-choice formula? I'm not sure how babies work ;)  The owners are turning him out with the mares too and they seem to get along. I can't believe how big he is already, such a thoroughbred!

Not sure the story on his leg...but how adorable is he?
